September 2, 2021 Update from LOVEOrangeVirginia

Wow! It's September already! And, we have more good news to share with you about our Main Street district!

First, ODA/LOVe has been awarded a Financial Feasibility Grant (FFG) from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Virginia Main Street program. That makes us two for two in grant awards this year (you'll recall our earlier award to support the African American commemorative park project)! This $25,000 FFG award will allow us to obtain the services of a community development consultant to help identify the highest and best use of the former Earl's Glass Shop building. We can't be more pleased with this terrific opportunity to re-envision that wonderful property sitting strategically at our southern gateway.

Next, you may have heard hints about two new "foodie" spots that will open later this month in our Main Street district. Well, here's the scoop:

Spoon and Spindle -- this new concept is sure to immediately develop a loyal following! Located in the Silk Mill complex (same side as Iron Pipe Alewerks and Madison at the Mill), Spoon and Spindle will offer breakfast and brunch created by Chef Zach Andrews, a Charlottesville native and formerly of Zero George in Charleston, SC. A soft opening is planned for September 18 and 19. Take a sneak peek at the menu by clicking here! Mouth watering?

Then hold on...nothing says comfort like the comfort food from Coopers Cookin and Catering! Specializing in authentic Southern dishes, their food is based on recipes passed down from the Matriarchs of the family, and encompasses all the love and passion of their teachings -- fried chicken and fish, and made-from-scratch pound cakes to name a few! You can find them later this month on Byrd Street behind Copy Stop. In the meantime, get a sneak peek of their offerings by going to their Facebook page!

Keep it local, Keep it Orange!
